Letter from the Chief

Dear Citizens,

Welcome to the Papillion Police Department website! It is a distinct honor to represent the officers of the Department, and a higher honor to serve all of you. The Papillion Police Department employs only the best of the best to maintain its high ethical standards and professionalism. The men and women of this Department consistently reflect the standards of this great community and work extremely hard to deliver fair and equitable police services.

The City of Papillion is located just south of the Omaha Metropolitan area with about 24,159 citizens within the city limits and impacted by another 25,000+/- in surrounding extraterritorial jurisdictions and SIDs. Papillion has received national recognition as one of the best places to live for over a decade and is experiencing tremendous development and growth. Our citizens engage regularly with their local government and demand high quality municipal services and amenities. All these factors create a unique challenge for policing.

Currently, the Papillion Police Department consists of 47 officers and 5 civilian employees, all of whom are dedicated to our mission of fostering a safe community by responding to crime, addressing community concerns related to safety, and maintaining an effective presence throughout Papillion. Our brand of Community Oriented Policing consists of direct citizen and community engagement through a wide variety of means, to include citizen contacts, calls for service, citizen surveys, hotline requests, traffic complaints and social media. Through this engagement we can identify the true issues and problems affecting the public, and we often collaborate with other city departments, schools, community organizations, business associations and neighborhood groups to maintain and improve our community.

Having been employed by the Police Department since 1993, I’ve had the opportunity to serve in almost every law enforcement position available, as well as each rank possible. I was selected as Deputy Chief in March 2015 and held that position until my selection and promotion to Police Chief on May 18, 2021. I continue to learn more each day and could not be prouder of this Department, its accomplishments, and its people.

I encourage you to learn more about our Police Department by participating in our Citizens Police Academy (LEEP – Law Enforcement Education Program), going on a ride-along, and/or following us on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and NextDoor). I also hope you take time to meet our officers and staff, as I’m confident you will find them to be honest, empathetic, and fair. I’m sure you will agree with me that they are exceptional individuals ready to serve all citizens.

I thank you in advance for your support!

Sincerely,

Chief Christiaan E. Whitted
